This LOMA course explains the concept of risk and the various techniques that a person or organization can use to manage risk, including transferring risk through the mechanism of insurance. The course explains the characteristics that a risk must have in order to be insurable. Finally, the course adds critical details about how an insurer assesses and classifies the risks it is asked to insure, and discusses the requirement for insurability in life insurance known as "insurable interest."

Risk is the primary underpinning of the insurance and financial services industry. This overview is a must for employees just starting out in the industry, or for those involved in product design, marketing, actuarial, finance, underwriting, claims and customer service.
